1. A significant proportion of the fund will be allocated to inviting voluntary & community sector (VCS) organisations to develop projects that will engage “hard to reach” learners and contribute to partnership activities in areas of Cumbria with low participation & achievement, for example: we’ve recently invited a number of voluntary & community sector training venues to submit applications to improve their training spaces, so that these organisations can offer training in the communities where the participants live
The fund is available to encourage joint working between VCS organisations & large training providers, like FE colleges, to ensure that there are recognisable learning progression routes in place for new learners. The funding, however, would be directed to the VCS group engaging with the new learners rather than the colleges.
2. The NLDC fund will continue to support innovative projects that tackle deprived rural communities of place or interest outside the main areas of urban deprivation.
3. The fund will give priority to applications from smaller voluntary and community sector organisations. CLL will offer advice to organisations wishing to apply to the fund, & support with monitoring & evaluation will be available to successful applicants, if needed.
4. Applications are welcomed for capital expenditure as well as revenue, although most of the capital for the next round is likely to go to venues.
NB 1. The fund does not support projects that are largely for IT training or computer equipment. There is a lot of IT provision around the county. Have you thought of working in partnership with your local college or CDC (Community Development Centre) to offer the kind of training you need?
NB 2. The fund cannot be used for staff costs where there is no link to learning activities. In fact, any project which has a large proportion of its costs devoted to staff time will not be looked upon favourably by the panel.
